500 kW of rooftop solar for IIT Mandi
Delivered for IIT MandiTHE PROJECT
Campus rooftops, put to work.
A 500 kW rooftop solar project at IIT Mandi brings on-site solar generation to an education and research campus in Himachal Pradesh. Arrays across campus rooftops turn existing building space into energy infrastructure, with an opportunity for students to learn from the installation.
LEARNING ON CAMPUS
Solar power. A learning opportunity.
IIT Mandi students participated in learning how the solar project works and how it is installed. The project offered a practical connection between renewable-energy concepts and the panels, mounting structures and electrical equipment used on campus.
FROM NEED TO OUTCOME
The need. The solution.
The difference.
Fit solar around a working campus.
Campus rooftop solar needs to account for separate buildings, available roof space and existing services. At IIT Mandi, the installation sits within a hillside campus, alongside rooftop equipment and access areas.
Connect rooftop space with solar generation.
The 500 kW project brings together rooftop panel arrays, mounting structures and inverter equipment across campus buildings. The original site photographs show both the solar arrays and the Havells inverter installation.
Energy value beyond the classroom.
The project adds on-site renewable generation and provides an opportunity to offset purchased electricity. Its value also extends to student learning, connecting an installed solar system with an understanding of how renewable-energy projects work.

A campus can also be a classroom.
An institutional solar project can combine energy infrastructure with opportunities for learning. Plan the system around campus demand, usable rooftop space and long-term support, while making its working principles accessible to students.
Generation and savings figures are illustrative, not measured or guaranteed results. Actual savings depend on generation, on-site use, tariff and operating costs. One electricity unit equals one kilowatt-hour (kWh).
